Overview

The film starts with a young woman (Marie-Louise Müller) who is playing with dolls. We see her house is a doll house. She is living in that house. At first, she seemed very happy. But as the film progresses, we see a drastic change in her behaviour. Suddenly she is not liking her home. She roams all around her house seeing every known corner. But she is not getting that comfort which she used to get.

The young woman starts getting bigger in size and soon she gets out of the house. She no longer fits into her own home. For the first time she gets out of her home. She seems confused. She even sees a couple with their daughter in the park. It is the exact same family which the young woman was playing with when she was in the home.

She embarks on a surreal journey of finding her true home. She starts roaming all around, seeing trees and feeling the air. She takes out a piece of paper and writes “Where Is Home?” and put that into an empty bottle and throw the bottle into the river. The bottle sails on its own trying to find a home.

Review

Filmmaker Kristina Schippling treats this film as a surreal dream. Here the woman is getting bigger in size and does not fit into her own home depicts the complex mind of a human. How the woman finds it difficult to live in a society. Here home is depicted as society.

With surreal yet serene visuals, the makers have wonderfully captured the thoughts of the young woman. Marie-Louise Müller shines in every frame. With her top-notch expression and body language, the character adds another complexity to the narrative. Another aspect of the film which is really great is the visualization. Some of the shots are picture perfect with a vibrant colour scheme. The silence in the film goes well with the narrative and the treatment.

Conclusion

All in all, Kristina Schippling directed silent short film “Findings” is a complex surreal journey of a young woman’s mind and the journey of finding her ideal “home.”
